Thank you for all your support

Dear Friends of Christmas at the Barn

Christmas at the Barn ran for 6 years and was a wonderful event.  The decision was taken that following the best Christmas at the Barn ever in 2015 that it would be the last year it ran.

I am sure you will all agree it was an amazing event.  A beautiful location, amazing products, yummy food, an amazing raffle each year raising over £4000 for charity and so many happy stall holders & customers.

I loved every minute but with all good things, they come to an end. I thank you all for your support over the years & wish you all a very happy Christmas 2016 x

Edamay ❤ Autumn Handmade Fun

Without any doubt Autumn is here. The berries on the hedgerows are ripe for picking, leaves are falling and there are stunning seed heads aplenty.

Edamay loves Autumn.  It is the perfect excuse for digging out home knitted cosiness to keep warm. This Autumn new knitting kits to make your own cosiness have been added to our Not on The High Street shop.
Another reason Edamay loves Autumn is Halloween & dressing up.  As you would expect 'handmade' features highly in fancy dress costumes within the Edamay Household.  The oldest mini Edamay takes great pride in designing her costume while Mr Edamay & I readily rise to the challenge of making them.  In 2011 she was a giant pumpkin & in 2010 a Goblin. She is still working on the 2012 design!

Being very 'girly' girls they don't generally do scary so our pumpkins are usually carved non-traditionally like last year's 'Hello Kitty' pumpkin!

However you plan to welcome in the Autumn & if you choose to celebrate Halloween, stay cosy and have fun!

Millie Moon's Great Create: A Brilliant Day

Yesterday I attended Millie Moon's Great Create  held in one of my favourite places 'Mells Barn', Nr Frome, Somerset.  The day was set up as a 'Speed Crafting Event' with the aim of 80 ladies making 8 (yes 8) items in 8 separate 20 minute time slots. Rough calculations mean that was an aim of making 640 items in a single day! The whole event was simply brilliant. Rachel & Becki, the Millie Moon sister duo should be doubly proud of themselves as not only was it an amazing day, they raised £2500 for locally based charity Positive Action on Cancer. YAY!

The event was started in style with the Mayor of Frome ringing a Bell!

Each mini project was run by a tutor from Millie Moon. Everyone was given a bag containing a kit for each project. The tutor took you step-by-step through each project. So in just 20 minutes everyone had made something lovely! The projects included: fabric rings, pin cushion, poinsettia brooch, bow brooch, ceramic tree decoration, yoyo keyring, collage gift tag & a felt Christmas bauble.  Here is a peek at a couple of the projects.

On some projects the 20 minutes zoomed by and the item was finished just as the bell rang to signify the end of the session. On others there was time left to enjoy the yummy treats in the centre of each table!

In between the making there were very inspiring talks from the likes of Lindsey Mayhew from Future Publishing who works on some of my favourite magazine titles such as Mollie Makes, Simple things to name but a few.

It was a wonderfully inspiring day and I haven't even mentioned the yummy lunch, delicious afternoon tea, the jelly roll race or all of the lovely people I met! If you are not familiar with the Millie Moon shops you really are missing out. They have 2 lovely shops. One in Frome & the second in Wells. I suggest you get a visit scheduled ASAP to browse their beautiful fabrics, haberdashery & books. You won't be disappointed. They also run fabulous courses for adults & children. I have booked myself a one-to-one lesson for a couple of weeks time to overcome my fear of sewing zips!

I
Thanks again Rachel & Becki it was a truly wonderful & inspiring day x

Liberty Sewing Class - A perfect day out!

Yesterday I headed up to London for a day at Liberty's Sewing School. I had been given a class as a Christmas present from Mr Edamay.

The subject of the day was to make a clasp purse. This is something I have tried to make a couple of times before and it has never ended in success. In fact it has resulted in me getting extremely annoyed and throwing my glue encrusted creations in the bin! I was therefore slightly nervous about the day & the possibility of throwing a tantrum in public if my purse went wrong!

There were 7 of us in the class which was held in the beautiful wood panelled 'Heritage Suite' which is a complete haven of tranquility amongst the hustle & bustle of Regent Street outside. The class was run by the very lovely & very talented Lisa Lam of U-Handbag. She is the author of A Bag for all Reasons & The Bag Making Bible  I instantly knew I was in good hands. Lisa was calm, had an infectious giggle & promised we would all go home with a beautiful purse.

We got to work following her clear step-by-step instructions for the aptly named 'easy peasy purse' and 'ta-da' a few hours & a cream tea later (yes a cream tea was included in the class too!) this was the result..... a beautiful purse with a beautiful lining & a clasp that actually opens and closes and isn't encrusted with glue & isn't destined for the bin. In fact it is destined to be used & loved forever!

I love my purse & am proud of it!  Thanks Lisa for a great day & thanks Mr Edamay for a great gift!

Hobby Horses & The Nunney International Horse Trials

This afternoon brought a visit to the International Horse Trials event at Nunney, Somerset. We had driven past a banner advertising the event for the past couple of weeks with many a request from the 'horse mad' mini Edamays to attend.  It turned out to be a great way to spend the afternoon watching the exciting cross country & show jumping events.

The hobby horses made for the mini Edamay's 2nd birthday came along too.  They were ridden through the mud, across the fields and enjoyed watching the impressive jumps by real horses!

It is the best feeling to have made a gift for them that they get so much pleasure out of, so much in fact that there are now 'horse jumps' set up permanently in the garden & the mini Edamays each have a stable for their horses in their bedrooms. I'm just glad that at the moment they are content with the hobby horses and haven't graduated to wanting the real thing!

"Hey wait for us - we are riding the course too"
Impressive jumps by the talented riders

Happy Father's Day

Things have been super busy here at Edamay HQ for the past month with orders of our Personalised Cards & Father's Day Rosettes. These products are inspired by the mini Edamays and their love for their Dad: Mr Edamay. He really is the 'Best Dad' funny, kind, great at adventures, reading stories, riding bikes & taking them surfing when I say it is way too cold for me to brave the sea!

Mr Edamay will be of course receiving a 'Best Daddy Award' this Sunday along with something rather special that the girls made him (top secret at the moment!) Homemade always features highly at any celebration in the Edamay household. We are taking him out for brunch at his favourite restaurant where we will treat my Dad too - a perfect way to spend Sunday morning!

Mr Edamay taking the girls surfing in Cornwall - June 2012. I sensibly waited on the beach!

We wish all Dads, Fathers, Daddys, Pops & Papas a very happy Father's Day this Sunday x
